### E. Coli Outbreak Linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders

An E. coli outbreak connected to raw onions in McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers has significantly worsened, with hospitalizations more than doubling and illnesses reaching 75. Affected individuals, aged 13 to 88, span across 13 states, and one person in Colorado has died. The outbreak has expanded beyond the Mountain West to Michigan, Washington, and Oregon. A severe case of hemolytic uremic syndrome was reported.

Authorities emphasize the recall of onions across several states to mitigate risk. Alongside McDonald's, other fast-food chains like Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Burger King have removed onions from their menus. McDonald's ceased Quarter Pounder sales in multiple states and identified Taylor Farms as the onion supplier, which has now issued recalls of its yellow onion products.

A lawsuit was filed after a Colorado resident fell ill, and investigations are ongoing to determine if Quarter Pounder's beef is also contaminated. Colorado, Montana, and Nebraska report the highest cases.
